A young boy has been arrested after admitting he put needles in strawberries as a 'prank'.
NSW detectives announced the arrest of the boy on Wednesday afternoon, after earlier revealing the contamination crisis across the country being entirely the work of copycats and pranksters. Acting Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith said the arrest had been made in the past few days. 'Obviously in the last few days we found a young person has admitted to a prank, including putting needles in strawberries,' Mr Smith said. Current state legislation says any NSW offenders will spend a maximum of 10 years in prison. However, Mr Smith says the young boy will now be dealt with under the 'youth cautioning system'.
At least 13 people have gone public about finding needles in their strawberries since a man was rushed to hospital on September 9.
The crisis continues to take its toll on farmers, who are burning tens of thousands of dollars a day picking millions of strawberries they have to immediately dump. Demand has halved in the past week as the contamination crisis ripped through the industry and supermarkets pulled the fruit from shelves.
The Queensland Strawberry Growers Association said at least a dozen farms could go bankrupt as a result of the crisis - and more if it drags on.
New Zealand removed all Australian strawberries from sale indefinitely and some buyers in Britain and Russia also cut the whole country off.

    You may say

There really are evil people in this world. Who would even think of doing such a thing?!? Gods, that is terrifying! This person doing this needle thing would burn in hell one day. I will keep buying strawberries, I just make sure I cut it up enough to ensure there's no needles. The people growing these products need our support.
