    Introverts find a kindred spirit
Privacy is something of a luxury in China, a land with a population of 1.4 billion. Personal space is not a concept that ordinary Chinese are familiar with. So it is a surprise to see Matti, a socially awkward cartoon character in the Finnish Nightmares comic series, become something of a celebrity in China's cyberspace. A new term in Mandarin has even been coined to describe people who are like the hero: jingfen, or "spiritually Finnish". According to a widely distributed definition on social media, jingfen broadly refers to people who dislike socializing– like the Finns–and take their personal space "extremely seriously". Matti's fear of crowds and small talk and his tendency to be easily embarrassed have struck a chord with many Chinese readers. But it's Finnish culture itself – of which privacy and personal space have long been part – that has also struck a chord.
    Musk plans to privatize Tesla
Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Tuesday that he may seek to take the company private at a price of $420 per share. In the letter sent out to Tesla employees, Musk wrote that "a final decision has not yet been made, but the reason for doing this is all about creating the environment for Tesla to operate best". Musk described the "wild swings" in Tesla's stock price as a "major distraction" and said the quarterly earnings cycle puts "enormous pressure on Tesla to make decisions that may be right for a given quarter, but not necessarily right for the long term". In addition, Musk rejected the interpretation that he was simply seeking greater wealth or control of the company than the 20% he already owns.
     Job hopping the new normal
China's young jobseekers born in and after 1995 are likely to quit their first job within seven months on average, according to a report released by professional networking website LinkedIn. The site analyzed the public profiles of 150,000 users and found that first jobs are hardly ideal for many. Those born in the 1970s quit their first job after working four years, an average that dropped to 3.5 years for those born in the 1980s, 19 months for the post-1990 generation and now seven months for the post-1995s. The report said young people born in the 1990s are more independent, care more about their feelings and seek to realize their own values more than older generations.
V.S. Naipaul dies at age 85
Trinidad-born British author and Nobel prize winner Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul died at the age of 85 in his London home on Saturday. "He was a giant in all that he achieved and he died surrounded by those he loved, having lived a life which was full of wonderful creativity and endeavor," his wife Nadira Naipaul said in a statement quoted by the Sky News broadcaster. Naipaul won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2001 and a lot of other awards during his literary career starting in the 1950s. Among the fiction and nonfiction books he wrote, the novel "A House for Mr. Biswas" brought him worldwide fame in 1961. Naipaul was born in Trinidad in 1932 into an Indian family.
